Marcus Fernando

Artistic Director. His role is to oversee the creative process of the piece.   Ever since he was young, travel has been a major part of Marcus’ life. Born in Dorchester, moved to America, raised in Guernsey and now living in Birmingham, Marcus also spends much of his time pursuing theatrical pursuits in Canada, Croatia and (occasionally) New Zealand. This travelling has helped him to develop a broad outlook towards his directing.  He began his professional career as an actor after completing his training here in Birmingham. He has since worked with major companies throughout the country, including the National Theatre, RSC, Hammersmith Lyric and Belgrade Theatre in Coventry, as well as touring as an actor-musician with the musical “Buddy”.  As a director, Marcus has worked for several companies, many of them based in this region. He has directed major national tours such as “Romeo and Juliet”, “Gulliver’s Travels” and “Ali Baba”, as well as smaller touring productions such as “The Snow Queen” and “Blackpool and Parrish”, and has taken several productions over to Canada. He now works regularly at Blue Orange Theatre in Birmingham, which suits him fine as it allows him to spend plenty of time with his family, and still have a life in Theatre. It was at the, Blue Orange that Marcus directed, ‘Les Vaches Dans Le Champ.’  He particularly likes to work with live music in his shows, as he himself is also a musician. Recently he directed the new musical “Trolls Online” at the Cockpit Theatre in London.
